East Pines Ranch is located in Southwest Colorado amid some of the most scenic and fascinating country in the United States. Area attractions abound. Two National Parks, Mesa Verde and Canyonlands are located nearby. Also in the area are the rich archaeological and historical sites of Crow Canyon, Hovenweep, Escalante Trail and Madam Curie's Camp. The ranch is comprised of over 100,000 acres of range and crossing several climatic zones, with elevations ranging from 4000 feet in the winter areas, to over 9000 feet in the summer pastures. Summer headquarters are in the high country east of Dove Creek, with a cow camp on the Glade. Winter quarters are in the beautiful red-rock country at Slick Rock, with the old Snyder Cabin as a line camp in Disappointment Valley. A "tent camp" at McEntyre Canyon is also used when certain western portions of the winter range are being grazed. Wildlife abounds on the ranch. Desert Bighorns can be seen in the Slick Rock country along with antelope, mule deer and elk on other parts of the ranch. Coyotes, bobcats, small mammals and many birds may also be observed from time to time. Careful ranch management assures ecologically sound ranching practices, maintaining an enduring balance between man and nature. This type of environmentally sensitive management requires constant attention to the range and the cattle. Cattle must be routinely moved from pasture to pasture. Fences must be checked. Water holes must be inspected to be sure they have not gone dry. Labor-intensive efforts to maintain the land and environment produce superior, naturally grown beef and offer unique opportunities to our guests, enabling them to participate in the activities of the working cowboy's life. Our beef is available for purchase from the ranch and is delivered through a USDA approved processing plant. Contact us for price and availability. |
